A451-4102 STARTER LOCK TORQUE TESTER Measure the starters actual torque Rate all your starters in foot/pounds to determine the real operational strength Measure the torque from an outboard motor starter to a 50MT starter Analog Indicator NEW LARGER ANALOG INDICATOR
	Operation: 1    Position starter in your vice allowing the clamping device access to the starter drive. 2    Tighten clamping device leaving approx. 1/8” slack on the clamp  to drive 3    Connect power supply battery or test bench to the starter 4    Put power to the starter, (this test stalls the starter and only takes 1 to 2 seconds to perform).      Observe the volts, amps and torque on  the tester 5    A low reading will indicate a weak or bad armature or incorrect field coils Remember: •    Any starter that the tester will mount into and will be able to be positioned so the pressure point on the bench top, can be tested •    Locks the drive when testing •    Rotate the drive in the Free Spin Direction after the Lock Test •    Some starters, while being tested, will draw in excess of 500 Amps.  Make sure your test bench is capable of up to 1000 Amp draw. Sample Readings: The locked up starter will draw as much as 1000 amps.  Make sure your test bench amp meter will handle this much current or a permanent failure of the meter will occur.  It is recommended that you keep a log of the Voltage & Torque readings during the stall test for future reference.  The following tests were performed using a Crumbliss 2487 Power Supply, but voltage were not supplied.  Keep in mind the same type of starter can have different readings based on field coils.  Save your readings.  These reference readings were supplied by A & J Transport.
